It’s the home comforts of Hampden tonight for Gus’ men as Airdrieonians provide the opposition in our penultimate Betfred Cup Group E match. After an opening day defeat to Queen of the South, the Spiders bounced straight back, recording a 2-0 win over fellow League One side Stenhousemuir at Ochilview last Tuesday.

Those who made that short trip to Larbert for that game would have been happy to see that the result was accompanied by a good, solid performance from a team which contained a number of new faces. Gus will undoubtedly be looking for more of the same tonight from his squad against The Diamonds.

Ahead of the game the club media team spoke to the gaffer to get his thoughts.

Gus said: “It’s going to be a tough game against an experienced Airdrie side tonight. They played Partick Thistle on Friday night and gave a good account of themselves. A number of their squad have played at a higher level and that will pose a challenge to us tonight”.

“We have a number of new players in our squad who will be looking forward to their first experience of playing at Hampden and the game will also give them experience against another League One side”.

Gus continued: “It will help our plays tactically and physically to face a side that we will come up against this season. It’s important that we try and stop them getting into a rhythm early in the game”.

It’s a game that we will look forward to, as I’m sure Aidrie will. Both teams like to pass the ball and Hampden provides that opportunity”.
