Old foes Albion Rovers are the visitors to Hampden on Saturday afternoon as Ray McKinnon’s men look to make it three league wins on the bounce against a Rovers side that the Spiders have yet to beat this season.

The Spiders were given a boost on the eve of the tie with the confirmation of attacking midfielder Ross MacLean’s arrival from Falkirk, defender Peter Grant’s arrival from Morton, and late on Friday, the loan signing of young Dundee United defender, Jake Davidson.

Ahead of the Hampden clash the club media team caught up with the gaffer to talk about the signings and preview the game.

Commenting on MacLean’s arrival he said: “Ross will bring quality, energy and athleticism to the squad and he is a very good football player. I signed him for Morton from Motherwell, where he was great for me, and then also signed him again at Falkirk. I know all of his attributes, his work rate and the type of player we are getting, and I believe he is absolutely ideal for us.

“One of the best things about Ross is that he can play in two or three different positions and I believe he will add a lot to the squad. He will give us the option of playing him out wide, up top and also at wing back, and in general terms he is an all-round good player who I am delighted to be able to bring to the club.”

On Grant’s arrival he said: “I’m delighted that Peter has agreed to join us. He is an experienced centre half who has racked up a lot of games at Championship level, as well as having played in down south despite only being 25. Peter’s experience and leadership will be a welcome addition to the squad and it’s a signing that I’m very happy to have been able to make.”

Looking ahead to the visit of Albion Rovers, McKinnon said: “This is a game which we are very much looking forward to. We know it will be a tough match, as results in the previous meetings this season indicate. We’ll need to ensure we work extremely hard to ensure we give ourselves a chance of taking the three points.

“We have prepared well for the game and are fully focussed on the task in hand. We want to build momentum and consistency and the players know what is required of them in order to achieve that. We go into the game on the back of two consecutive league wins and it goes without say that we want to make that three in order to continue the momentum.

“It’s been very pleasing to have been able to add to the squad this week as I felt we were a bit light going into recent games. Those who we have brought in will help in that regard whilst adding more quality to the squad.”
