The Spiders bring 2019 to a close with a trip to Galabank to take on Peter Murphy’s Annan Athletic. It’s a venue that has not been a happy hunting ground for the Spiders in recent years, having lost five on the trot since out last victory there in August 2014, when a Shaun Fraser goal just before the break was enough for Gus MacPherson’s side to take all three points.
With both teams going into the match on the back of defeats last weekend it’s safe to say it’s a huge three points up for grabs as well as the chance to end the year on a high.
Ahead of the game the club media team spoke to Mark Roberts to get his thoughts. Roberts said: “It’s a massive game for us in terms of our aspirations to move up the table, and it goes without saying that we’d love to sign off the year with three points. We know however that achieving that will require us to be at our best.
“Galabank has traditionally be a difficult venue to get a result from and if we are to get one tomorrow, we need to get the ball on the deck and get back to what we do best, passing it and creating opportunities for ourselves. We haven’t did enough of that in recent weeks and the results have shown that.
“I’ve said it on many occasions already this season but the first goal in games like tomorrow’s, is absolutely crucial from our perspective. Results have been favourable when we have got that first goal and I feel that it gives us that platform to either hold on to, or kick on from, in games.
“We know Annan, like ourselves, will be looking for a win tomorrow as they look to bounce back from their defeat at Albion Rovers last Saturday. They’re fourth in the table on merit and on their day are a very good side. We’ll need to be at our best defensively and cannot afford to be gifting the types of goals we did against Cove at Hampden last week.
“We have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game however there will be changes. We haven’t won any of our last three and from my perspective we need to shake things up a bit to look end that run.
