Peterhead are the next visitors to Hampden as the Spiders look to kick on from last weekend’s confidence boosting victory away to Stranraer. The win gave us a very welcome three points, moving us up a place to eighth in the table and also restoring the gap between ourselves and bottom side Stenhousemuir to four points.
Ahead of the Peterhead game, Gus gave the club media team his thoughts on the Stranraer win as well as previewing the upcoming match.
Reflecting on the 2-0 win last Saturday he described it as excellent, adding: “I was delighted with the result and the fact that we got the desired reaction after the loss to Stenhousemuir. It was very important that we got that.
“I though we were determined and focused throughout and the overall performance was something that we can be happy with. To go away from home to a difficult venue and take all three points, keeping a clean sheet into the bargain, was very pleasing. We clearly dropped our standards against Stenhousemuir the previous week and that was something which we can’t afford to do too often at this level, or we will be punished as we were.”
Looking ahead to the visit of Peterhead Gus said: “It’s now important that we take the positives from last week into this game. We need to try our hardest to find a level of consistency. We know we won’t win every game but if we can find that consistency, we’ll do well.
“Peterhead are a good side and well experienced at this level. It will undoubtedly be a tough game but it’s our home match and there is a requirement on us to make sure that we compete and show the same attitude as we did last week. We know that should we play to that level, then there’s every chance we could take all three points.”
On the squad front Gus confirmed that he will be forced into at least one change with Dario Zanatta missing out due to being on international duty with the Canadian U20 side. The gaffer also announced that midfielder Darren Miller has gone on loan to Clyde. There was however some good news in that David Galt is added to the squad having missed out in recent weeks.
The opposition: Peterhead go into the game sitting sixth in the table and on the back of a heavy 3-0 home defeat against Brechin City last Saturday. That defeat put an end to a run of three wins in a row which saw them beat Airdrieonians, Albion Rovers and Stranraer.
