The Spiders face what is likely to be our toughest test so far this season as an in form Edinburgh City visit Hampden on Saturday. James McDonaugh’s side have been consistently one of the best sides in League Two over the last few seasons and they go into this game on the back of two victories in which they have netted nine times. They’ll be up against a Spiders defence which has conceded just once in seven matches and who will be relishing the test of trying to keep The Citizens out.
“We go into the game very much looking forward to it and in a confident frame of mind. We know we’ll face a real test against a strong Edinburgh City side who have show in recent seasons that they are a real quality side. We won’t underestimate the challenge but we are in good form and can take plenty from our start to the league campaign.
“We know Edinburgh City are a dangerous side and a look at their recent results, and the number of goals they’ve scored, tells you that. For me though, and I’ve said it a number of times in recent weeks, first and foremost it’s about us, how we approach the game and how we play. We will look to build on recent performances and results and look to exploit Edinburgh City as best we can.
“I feel that we are now getting to a level where the whole squad has a good level of match fitness amongst them , we are competing well in matches and the players are enjoying the games. The boys are feeling strong and confident and that is huge. If you’re playing with confidence and building momentum week on week that is a big bonus.
“It’s also key that we look to continue to build on our home form as well. I know I spoke at the start of the season about trying to make Hampden a venue where away teams maybe don’t enjoy coming as much as they have done in the past. We want teams to expect a tough game when they come to Hampden and by winning games we will create that. “
