It’s only the second Saturday of August, but Queen’s face their seventh game of the new season when they travel to Ochilview to face Stenhousemuir.
And as was the case last week when we opened our league campaign with a second clash of the season against Airdrie, this will be our second match with the Warriors – having also faced them in our Betfred League Cup section.
Queen’s came out on top in that one, and Gus MacPherson will be hoping for an action replay as we meet on League 1 duty.
It’s the start of a run of three matches in seven days for the Spiders, all of them away from home. And as he looked ahead to the game with the club web team, the Gaffer was determined that his side should put points on the board in this outing.
Gus took positives from last week’s defeat at Airdrie, although he was naturally disappointed at the outcome.
He told us: “I genuinely don’t believe that 3-1 was a fair reflection of the way the game went. We played very well at the start and created some excellent chances. But we failed to make the most of our opportunities and were punished for that.
“I hope it will be a good lesson for the boys that they have got to take their chances when they create them if we are to make the progress we are all seeking.”
Looking ahead to the Larbert trip, the manager called on his players to adopt the same positive attitude they displayed at the start against Airdrie, and add the clinical edge which will be vital in this league campaign.
Sean Burns should be available again after suspension last week, giving Gus another possibility on the selection front.
The opposition: Stenny also got their league campaign off to a disappointing start last weekend, going down 2-1 against Brechin City at Glebe Park. Former Spider Alan Trouten’s 35th minute goal gave Brechin a 1-0 half time lead. Fraser Kerr equalised for the Warriors in the 67th minute before Ross Caldwell won the game for Brechin with his 79th minute goal.
