After taking a hard fought point against an in-form Stranraer side at Stair Park last Saturday, the Spiders return to the home comforts of Hampden to take on another of the league’s form sides – Brechin City.
Speaking to the club media team on the eve of the Brechin clash, Gus reckoned that a point apiece was a reasonable outcome from Stranraer.
The Gaffer added: “I think a draw was a fair result. Stranraer enjoyed a lot of the possession but I think we had the most clear-cut chances in the game. It was pleasing to go away from home and take a point against a team in such good form as Stranraer.
“We had taken a point against league leaders Livingston the week before and it was important that we took the momentum from that game into the match at Stair Park, and I feel we did that. We battled hard and despite going down to 10 men, managed to see the game out.
“As we prepare for Brechin’s visit, it is again vital that we continue the momentum built in recent weeks and take it into what is undoubtedly going to be another very tough game. We know we face a Brechin side who have won their last three games, the first of those being against ourselves a few weeks ago.
“We know that if we are to take anything from the game we will need to be at our best and ensure we compete from the start. We have played them three times already this season and every game has been a tough one. We expect the same again, but we go into the game in a confident frame of mind.”
On the squad front the gaffer confirmed that he will be without the services of centre back Adam Cummins who is suspended following his red card against Stranraer. Cummins will be joined on the sidelines by injured defensive duo Scott Gibson and Gavin Mitchell.
The opposition: Brechin currently sit fourth in the table, two places and five points ahead of the Spiders. They go into the game in good form having won their last three league matches, scoring seven and conceding twice. Their most recent victory was against Airdrieonians at Glebe Park where they ran out 3-0 winners to ensure they moved above the Diamonds in the league, and into a play-off spot.
