Ryan signed with Hamilton Academical in 2011 aged 16.  He had a loan spell at Dumbarton in January 2012.

He left Hamilton in January 2014, and in March of the same year signed for Rangers on a short-term deal.  He stayed with the Ibrox side for a year before signing for Partick Thistle in January 2015.

Ryan spent the summer of 2015 playing as a trialist for a number of different clubs, including Brechin City and Dunfermline Athletic. He eventually signed for Annan Athletic in September 2015.

He left Galabank in February 2016,] signing for Scottish Championship side Alloa Athletic shortly after.

Following Alloa’s relegation from the Scottish Championship Ryan was released after which he subsequently re-signed for Annan.

He left Annan in January 2017 and joined Clyde until the end of the 2016–17 season.

After leaving Clyde, Ryan moved to Australia in June 2017, signing for Brisbane Premier League club Grange Thistle.

After a spell with Swedish club IFK Östersund, he signed for Edinburgh City in October 2018.

In January 2019 he was playing for Edusport. Finnie returned to Sweden with IFK Mora in August 2019.

Ryan signed with Queen’s Park in November 2019.

Ryan made his debut for Queen’s Park coming on as a substitute against Cowdenbeath in the Ladbrokes League two game at Central Park on Saturday 16 November 2019.
