Alloa Athletic v Queen’s Park
The Spiders look to put an end to a run of three defeats on the trot this afternoon as we head to the Indodrill Stadium to take on an Alloa Athletic side who sit one point and one place above us in the early-season table.
Ahead of the game the club media team caught up with Gus MacPherson to get his thoughts on the Alloa challenge, and the 2-1 defeat by Motherwell Colts in the Irn-Bru Cup in midweek.
Looking back on that defeat Gus said: “The result was obviously a very disappointing one. It’s a game we wanted to win but ultimately errors have again cost us. I thought we did okay in the first half, defended well and got the goal that had us ahead at the break.
“Unfortunately, we lost Kevin Green on the stroke of half time to a very nasty injury which required seven or eight stiches. I’m not for a minute saying that was the cause of the defeat but it did have an effect on us in the second half. I thought the second half was poor. We struggled to get out of our own half for long spells and ultimately lost two poor goals from our perspective.
“That said we have positives to take from the game with regards to managing to give game time to Gregor Fotheringham, Michael White in goals and young Ally Miller. Ultimately though we know we need to work harder to cut out the mistakes which have cost us in recent weeks.
“We go to Alloa well aware of just how difficult a venue it is to get a result. We did well there last season coming away with two draws, the second of which required a very late equaliser on our part.
“The players are ready for the game and they know what is expected of them. They know we need to cut out the poor decision making and they know what is required of them if they are to take points from games at this level.”
The gaffer confirmed that he goes into the game without the services of Kevin Green who misses out through injury. Gus also confirmed that he will be without the services of Ryan Docherty who featured against Motherwell midweek but has since been released by the club.
The opposition: The Wasps opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to League One newcomers Raith Rovers. They had led for the majority of the game courtesy of a 16th minute Kevin Cawley goal only to concede a 90th minute equaliser. This was followed by a 1-0 away defeat at the hands of East Fife last Saturday. Midweek they faced Dundee U20s in the Irn-Bru Cup and recorded an impressive 4-2 win at Dens Park.
