Mark Roberts’ side make the short journey north to take on in form Stirling Albion at Forthbank on Saturday but amidst the injury chaos that has plagued his team in recent weeks, there was a welcome boost on the eve of the game with the announcement of David Galt’s return to the Spiders ranks. It’s a return that had a smile on both the player, and the managers face when the attackep penned his deal on Friday.
Ahead of the Forthbank clash on Saturday the club media team caught up with Mark Roberts to get his thoughts on the game, the current injury situation and his recent signing.
Roberts said: “It’s yet another really tough game in prospect, they are on a good run of form at present and have been doing particularly well since Kevin Rutkiewicz took over. That said, we have done reasonably well against them in previous meetings this season and I thought we were unfortunate not to have taken all three points in the last meeting at Hampden.
“It’s important from our perspective to try and take something from the game. They are the side above us in the table and the last thing we want is for the gap to widen any further.
“It’s vital that we give ourselves that chance of drawing or winning a game, something which we have failed to do too often in recent weeks, with last week being the prime example of that in that the full game plan is gone after 15 minutes.
“We need to try and put that behind us and look to take something from Saturday’s game and kickstart the season again. We have a run of games coming up that we will be expected to do better in, and I’m expecting us to do better in.”
On the return of David Galt a delighted Roberts said: “It’s a real boost for the squad and it’s pleasing to be able to recruit someone of David’s ability. He’s obviously been here before and shown what he’s capable of so it’s satisfying to get that deal across the line. David will go straight into the squad for Saturday and all being well I’d expect him to feature at some point.”
“I’m hoping that this is not the last of the signings in this window, ideally I would like to get another two or three new faces in but that’s easier said than done at this stage in the season however it’s something we’ll continue to work hard on.”
On the injury front the gaffer confirmed that Adam Martin who was stretchered off against Edinburgh City last week suffered a broken ankle and has since undergone successful surgery. The winger is likely to be side-lined until the end of the season. Left back Ciaran Summers is ruled out as he continues his comeback from a recent injury and Gerry McLauchlan remains a major doubt with the gaffer unsure if his head wound has healed enough to allow him to take his place at the back. On a positive note midfielder Kurtis Roberts has trained this week and returns to the squad.
The opposition: Kevin Rutkiewicz’s men go into the game on the back of three successive league victories which includes home wins over Cowdenbeath and Annan Athletic as well as a very impressive 1-0 away win over league leaders Edinburgh City. Just four behinds behind four placed Annan Athletic, they will have their eyes on a play off spot should their current run of form continue.
