It’s been a long two and a half months but finally, the Spiders are back in action this weekend as Stranraer make the visit to the National Stadium for the re-commencement of League Two action. Ray McKinnon’s men will be looking to pick up from where they left off and build on the five point gap established at the top of the table prior to the cessation of play in January.
Ahead of the game the club media team caught up with the gaffer to get his thoughts and he said: “It’s been a long time without a game so it’s safe to say we are all very much looking forward to being back. There’s a real excitement amongst the players and coaches that we’re back playing again.
“The mood in training over the last couple of weeks has been excellent. They have responded very well to being back and have trained very hard.”
“From a coaching perspective we have had to be mindful of how much we put into the sessions given the length of time we’ve not been together but overall I’m delighted with how it’s went. I feel that in the time we have had with the players we will be as well prepared as we could be going into tomorrow’s game.”
“On the game itself no one really knows how the long lay off will have affected anyone but we are certainly in a good frame of mind and ready for the match.”
“We know it’ll be a tough one, Stranraer are a good side who we’re on a very good run prior to the shut down so like ourselves, they will have aspirations of hitting the ground running again.”
“We’ll be looking to do what we need to do to win the game and set ourselves up for a very busy period ahead. We’re fortunate that we don’t have a midweek game coming up this week, allowing us another full week preparation with the players before we go into the two games per week schedule but again that is a challenge that we look forward to.”
“We do have one or two injuries to contend with, but the strengthening of the squad over the last few week or so with Salim, Luca and Ryan will really help the squad and keep us strong for the run in.”
