Methil is the next destination for the Spiders as we face East Fife at Bayview. And the message from Gus MacPherson ahead of the game was a clear one: “Let’s build on the momentum which has seen us take four points from the last two matches.”

On the eve of the East Fife game, the club media team caught up with the Gaffer to get his thoughts.

Reflecting on the 0-0 draw last week with Peterhead, Gus said: “I thought for the first 70 minutes we defended well without really looking threatening in front of goal. It looked at that stage like the game had draw written all over it. That said, I felt in the last 15/20 minutes that we were on the front foot and looked like we could have nicked the win- but it wasn’t to be.

“There are positives to be taken in that we kept a clean sheet, took a point and moved up a place in the table. We were up against a much more experienced side and it was pleasing to see us create problems for them.

“It’s now vital that we build on the results of the past two games. Following the disappointment of the results against Airdrie and then Stenhousemuir, it was vital that we got a reaction from the players and it’s been great to see that that has happened so clearly.”

Looking ahead to the East Fife game, Gus said: “It goes without saying that it will be another very difficult game for us. We have faced East Fife a number of times in recent seasons and they are generally tight, hard fought games. The recent game at Hampden which was won 1-0 highlighted just that.

“We’ll be up against a side with good experience and it’s vital that we compete in every area of the park. We’ll be respectful of them, as always, but we’ll go there looking to win the game. If we do the basics right and some chances in front of goal, then there’s ever chance of taking something from the game.

“Reports from their midweek game against Alloa, where they drew 2-2, indicate that they were unlucky not to have won the game. We know what we’re up against and the onus is on us to ensure we play to our strengths.”

On the squad front, Gus confirmed that the team is bolstered by the return of forward Dario Zanatta who missed out last week due to being on international duty. The gaffer also confirmed that he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the match.
